LOX - GHe Cooler in LN2 Bath

  • It is for cooling Liquid Oxygen as well as gaseous Helium using liquid nitrogen.
  • It has a vertical super insulated liquid nitrogen tank in which the cooling coils are immersed.
  • Two sets cooling coils, one for LOX and another for GHe are immersed in the liquid nitrogen.
  • This was supplied to LPSC, Mahendragiri for Steering Engine Test Facility in 1998 and is in use since.
  • This was an import substitute.

  • LH2 Heat Exchanger involving Liquid Hydrogen Tank of capacity 7500 litres for cooling two stream of gaseous helium with LH2 as a coolant.
  • One coil at 0.8MPa(a) and other at 2 MPa(a)
  • Inlet 80K, outlet at 22 K with
  • GHe flow rate of 36 gm/s at pressure 0.8 MPa(a)in one coil & 12 gm/se at pressure 2 MPa(a) in second coil.
  • Supplied in 2009 and has been in use since.

  • LN2 Heat Exchanger involving LN2 Tank of capacity 10560 litres for cooling two stream of gaseous helium with LN2 as coolant.
  • One coil at 2 MPa(a) and other at 33 MPa(a).
  • Inlet - 290 to 320 K & outlet at 79 K with
  • GHe flow rate of 36 gm/s at pressure
  • 0.8 MPa(a) in one coil & 12 gm/s at pressure 2 MPa(a) in the second coil.

  • LH2 Level Sensor Bath involving 3500 litres LN2 Tank of with neck opening of 1200 mm
  • Used for calibration of various types of Level Sensors in LH2 ambience.
  • It is a vertical super insulated vessel with nonstandard body flange of 1200NB.
  • The cylindrical shell and bottom dish have common vacuum jacket and top dish has separate vacuum jacket.
  • This non-conventional vessel called for ingenious design of connection between inner vessel and the vacuum jacket with minimum heat in-leak.
  • Connection without bellow which considerably improves its long time reliability and at the same time minimizes the heat in-leak.
  • Supplied in 2009 and has been in use since.
